After this little diversion the van roared on into Bremen, where Len very kindly dropped everyone near their homes, a superhuman achievement in the field of navigation, when you consider how much drink they had all gone through that night. And so to bed and oblivion, but not before quietly sneaking in at one in the morning, trying not to wake their hosts.
Off they lurched, Len at the wheel, Maggie, John and Mick in the back singing to keep him awake, the rest asleep. Suddenly, the middle of the van erupted as Alan (I) hurled himself across Toddy and Bill, towards the door. Len braked hard and turned to see Alan decorating the outside step and part of the door, while Bill, who had been rudely awakened from a deep coma by the flying body had to jump again as Toddy, inspired by Alan's gesture was suddenly seized by the urge to get in on the act; it looked such fun even Janet joined them.
By now everyone was beginning to feel hungry again and at Siegmar's suggestion, piled
into the van and somehow drove to a small restaurant for pizzas. The singing was
